Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the consecration of Resurrection of the Lord Church by Saint John, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco the Miracle-Worker

On June 7, 2026, on the Sunday of All Saints, celebrations were held at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the capital of Tunisia, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the church. The church was consecrated on June 10, 1956, by Saint John (Maximovitch), Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco. The anniversary celebrations were moved to Sunday.

On this day, the Liturgy was performed in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. The service was led by Archimandrite Alexander (Zarkeshev), Rector of the Church of St Apostle Philip in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), and Archpriest Dmitry Netsvetaev, Rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Tunisia, assisted by Deacon Alexey Kostin. The Liturgy chants were performed by the parish choir.

Parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church community in Tunisia prayed in the church; among the participants of the anniversary celebrations was the wife of the Russian ambassador to this country, IG Zolotova.

In the altar on the holy table, an icon of St John was installed – a gift for the 70th anniversary of the Resurrection Church from the parish of Saint Apostle Philip in the United Arab Emirates.

During the memorial litany, Fr Alexander commemorated all the departed rectors of the parish in Tunisia.

After the communion verse, the choir performed the troparion and kontakion to St John of Shanghai. At the conclusion of the Liturgy, the priests carried the icon of St John from the altar to the center of the church, where they performed the rite of blessing the new icon.

Then there was a procession around the church with the sprinkling of parishioners with holy water. In his pastoral address, Fr Alexander congratulated the parishioners on the 70th anniversary of the church, and Fr Dimitry spoke about the history of the parish's formation and the construction of the church in Tunisia. Deacon Alexey proclaimed the customary Many Years.

In the church courtyard, a festive meal was arranged for all those present.
